Yesterday, I did not complain about the location of my apartment complex.

I did not complain about the loud cars outside my busy window, blazing by boasting their horse power and dressed in their brilliant, glossy pant.

Suddenly, I missed the bombastic music echoing the streets—

the tunes that used to make my heart leap to my feet, never skipping a beat.

Yesterday, I did not complain about my apartment complex.

There was peace, quiet, a quiescent landscape which felt……. lonely, secluded, deluded by the virus that has left so many of us wounded.

I am learning to cherish the silence and when my busy street comes back to life, I will be the first to open my window and sing a song of sincere excitement.

The silence has taught me that we have so much to be grateful for.

Hello world. Today is Day 9 of my practice in “social distancing” due to the infamous Coronavirus. Sending out all my love to those suffering from the virus and those with loved ones who have fallen ill or perished.

I have been lucky and have stayed healthy, so far, and I would love to share some thoughts. The past week has been a kick in the gut. Daily schedules have been disrupted, hobbies have been put on hold, and the inside of my cozy apartment is starting to resemble my own minds complacency. I am here to present you with tips to occupy your mind and help promote creativity during these precarious times.

  1. Do your chores. I know that it sounds simple, but this is your chance to catch up on cleaning out the back cabinet that is still overcrowded from the holidays.
  2. Write in a journal. My colleagues and I are having students practice daily journaling by documenting their own “Corona Chronicles” updating how the virus has effected their daily lives, family and emotional health.
  3. Dive into research. Find a topic that you may not know much about and gain knowledge. Often times I find the moments we are idol are the moments we need to take the opportunity to learn! What is a concept or topic you have been dying to know more about, but just can’t find the time? Well……. now is your time!
  4. Practice meditation. Focusing on your breathing is essential during times of crisis. It helps us all stay afloat. If you are a skeptic to the benefits of meditation, there are plenty of scripts online to give you a kick start.

I hope these small tips are proven to be beneficial and help you fill your days no matter the city, state or country. Above anything else, do not let the thought of “what if…” pollute your mind. Stay safe and healthy.

Happy New Year all! This is my first blog post of 2020; a new decade has risen. I feel fresh, almost as if a new life has been breathed into me. Cliche, yet so true! I have high hopes for this year.

2019 was incredible, well, because I got engaged to the love of my life! But something about 2020 tells me there is more personal growth on the horizon. I am prepared for that, knowing that most growth happens in accordance with challenges, and welcome it with open arms.

I hope everyone feels ready to take on the world in 2020. Let’s do this. 🙂
